A film produced by the Museum, one of a series shown in the Museum's Borzoi Kabinet Theater at regular intervals.
Levsha is based on a Russian folktale about a peasant who is such a craftsman that he is able to shoe a dancing flea. This impresses the Czar, who calls him to court and exploits Levsha's sklills for his own political purposes, destroying Levsha in the process. The film is based on the mid-19th century novella by Nickoli Semyonovich Leskov which has been called "an eternal parable of the Russian Soul."
